Each hall of the exhibition was executed as an independent thematic block associated with different periods, trends, and subjects of Chinese contemporary Art. Most of the works are somehow connected with understanding their own national culture and identity in the international context. American pop art was one of the most powerful sources of influence for contemporary art in the PRC.

This direction addressed work with a template and stereotype, with the crisis of consumer society and the problem of overproduction of images in the mass media, that largely set the vector of artistic searches. The exhibition presented about 100 works by both Chinese and Russian artists, such as Wang Guangyi, Liu Bolin, Luo Brothers, Yao Junzhong, Yue Minjun, Zhang Xiaogang, Eduard Gorokhovsky, Andrey Grositsky, Marina Kastalskaya, Sergey Katran, Aidan Salakhova, Oleg Tselkov, Dashi Namdakov and others.

The title of the exhibition emphasizes the idea of the project: Gugong, the forbidden city, access to which was closed to ordinary citizens for five centuries, reveals the secret and appears in all the brightness of its colors to the Russian viewer.
