The new exhibition project of the Tretyakov Gallery is dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the birth of the outstanding impresario Sergei Diaghilev, a unique figure in the history of not only Russian theater but also of all Russian Art in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. His main project "Russian Seasons" in Paris changed the tradition and turned the dance into modern art, making a stunning impression on the audience. As a talented impresario, he decided on the most daring experiments and always went against the tide, which won endless interest.
The exhibition features costume sketches, photographs of performances and rehearsals, portraits of choreographers Leonid Myasin, Serge Lifar, Mikhail Fokine, and famous ballerinas Tamara Karsavina, Olga Spesivtseva, Anna Pavlova, Irina Baronova, and others from the collection of Mikhail Larionov. The culmination became the original costumes and significant scenography for the ballets designed by Alexander Golovin, Leon Bakst, Natalia Goncharova, and Nicholas Roerich.
