Only 40 km separates the peaks of Krasnaya Polyana from the warm waters of the Black Sea. The village belongs entirely to the territory of the Sochi National Park, which is considered one of the richest natural reserves in

Russia. Sochi National Park was created in 1983, becoming one of the first biosphere reserves. On the vast territory in the mountains, the size of which reaches 190 thousand hectares, any production and industrial activity were terminated in order to be used for health and tourism purposes.

On the northern slope of the Aibga ridge is located the RusSki Gorki Olympic facility, which is a ski jumping complex. The place at the junction of the two ridges was chosen in accordance with the recommendations of experts from the Ski Jumping Federation, the Scandinavian Russian team, and the International Ski Federation (FIS). This solution made it possible to harmoniously fit into the surrounding landscape 

and minimize the adverse effects of crosswinds for athletes. The RusSki Gorki Jumping Center has received a permanent certificate of conformity from the International Ski Federation FIS for the XXII Olympic Winter Games. It was one of the key Olympic facilities in Sochi. It hosted the ski jumping and combined Scandinavian competitions. 

The concept of the resort was changed more than once in the process of creating a design project. The initial sketch was developed in the workshops of famous Russian architects Mikhail Filippov and Maxim Atayants. Further, the Creative Project team from Kazan completed the working documentation. The main architectural and artistic task to be solved during the development of the project's general plan was to create a unique Russian resort city near the Black Sea,

possessing both a Mediterranean and Russian atmosphere. The renowned French architect Pierre Diener who has extensive experience in designing ski clusters, including Courchevel, acted as a consultant. The main accent in the image of the resort is the central square in the heart of Lower City. Conceptually, this square resembles the Agora of Athens which was the epicenter of main events in the life of the Greek capital, a territory of social and business life. 

The architects have taken into account the urban experience of popular European resorts with their mobility potential and lively atmosphere. Elegant and at the same time monumental buildings are built in the classic European style of the XVII-XVIII centuries with elements of modern architecture. All structures are stylized as old buildings that have been skillfully

restored and modernized. As if the city has already lived through several centuries and taken in the spirit of these places, has lived a long, interesting history, and acquired its own, unique atmosphere. Its demure look reminds us that the Black Sea coast of the Caucasus is ancient Colchis, a coveted target of the Argonauts who looked for the legendary Golden Fleece.

It is the center of the entire resort infrastructure, which is at 540 meters above sea level, on the territory of the Sochi National Park, in the picturesque Mzymta River valley. The location is such a place entailed obligations in terms of water conservation and protection of the river ecosystem.
